Black Girls in Tech (BGIT) partnered with AXA to host an inspiring Women in Leadership event on 28 May 2026, bringing together aspiring leaders, experienced professionals, and industry experts for an evening of meaningful conversation, shared experiences, and professional development.
The event created a platform for women to explore the realities of leadership, discuss career progression, and gain valuable insights into building confidence and resilience in the workplace. Through engaging discussions and personal reflections, attendees were encouraged to embrace leadership opportunities while supporting greater diversity and inclusion across their industries.
The evening featured a thought-provoking panel moderated by Mary Yemisi Shobowale, with speakers Emma Duckworth, Karen Emelu, and Preethi Gopinathan sharing their individual leadership journeys. Drawing on their diverse experiences, the panel explored topics including overcoming challenges, navigating career growth, fostering inclusive workplaces, and the importance of authentic leadership.
Throughout the discussion, speakers highlighted the value of representation at every level of an organisation, emphasising that diverse leadership drives innovation, strengthens decision-making, and helps create environments where everyone has the opportunity to succeed. Their stories inspired attendees to recognise their own leadership potential and pursue opportunities with confidence.
In addition to the panel discussion, the event provided valuable networking opportunities, enabling attendees to connect with fellow professionals, exchange ideas, and build relationships within a supportive community committed to advancing women in technology and business.
Black Girls in Tech extends its sincere thanks to AXA for partnering on this event and for supporting conversations that champion leadership, inclusion, and career development.
