Black Girls in Tech (BGIT) welcomed aspiring designers and technology enthusiasts to an engaging UI/UX Crash Course on 12 April 2025, delivering a full day of practical learning, collaboration, and community building for women interested in pursuing careers in user experience and user interface design.
Designed to introduce participants to the foundations of UI/UX, the workshop attracted attendees from a range of backgrounds, including many who were exploring the field for the very first time. From the moment the event began, participants embraced the opportunity to develop new skills, ask questions, and connect with others on similar career journeys.
The crash course combined expert-led sessions with interactive, hands-on activities, allowing attendees to gain practical experience while learning key principles of user-centred design. Throughout the day, participants explored topics including user research, wireframing, design thinking, and collaborative project work, providing them with valuable insight into the end-to-end design process.
In addition to technical learning, the event encouraged meaningful conversations about representation, confidence, and career progression within the technology industry. Participants had the opportunity to network, share experiences, and build relationships with others who are passionate about creating more inclusive and accessible digital products.
The workshop reflects Black Girls in Tech's ongoing commitment to equipping Black women with the skills, knowledge, and confidence needed to succeed in technology. By creating accessible learning opportunities and supportive communities, BGIT continues to remove barriers to entry and open pathways into careers where Black women remain underrepresented.
The enthusiasm, curiosity, and collaboration demonstrated throughout the day served as a powerful reminder of the talent that exists within the community when access to opportunities is made available. Every question asked, idea shared, and connection formed contributed to an inspiring learning environment that celebrated growth and innovation.
Black Girls in Tech extends its thanks to everyone who attended and helped make the event such a success. As the organisation continues to expand its programme of workshops and community events, the UI/UX Crash Course marks another important step in empowering the next generation of Black women in technology.
